Dr. Javier Andrade grew up in Caracas, Venezuela where he began his medical training at the most prestigious University in the country, the Universidad Central de Venezuela. He graduated in 2001 in the top 20% of his class. After receiving his Medical Degree he had the opportunity to work in some of the most prestigious Medical centers in the United States including The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX where he performed Clinical research; the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN where he did his surgical Internship; and the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX where he completed his surgical residency and received the Golden Scalpel award as an outstanding surgical resident.
After completing his general surgery training he went to complete a Laparoendocopic and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. This is one of the few Advance Laparoscopic fellowships in the country that have the unique feature of combining advanced laparoscopic surgery with flexible endoscopy where all forms of endoscopy are performed by surgeons, including procedures such as therapeutic ERCP, intestinal stenting, endoscopic dilatation of strictures, endoscopic therapy for GERD (Esophyx), endoscopic Rose procedure in addition to the usual upper and lower endoscopies.
While at the University of Miami, he held the academic appointment of Clinical Instructor of Surgery and had the opportunity to perform clinical research in advance Surgical Endoscopy and single incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS); and also helped train future and actively practicing surgeons in these latest surgical techniques like single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS).
During his surgical training he have performed over 800 advanced laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures including Gastric Bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy, adjustable gastric band placement (Lap-Band), Esophyx procedures for the treatment of GERD Acid Reflux Disease; Rose procedure (endoscopic revision of previous gastric bypass) and Endoscopic gastrointestinal stenting to provide a minimally invasive way to treat surgical complications without the need of additional surgeries.
I am a board certified surgeon and I an active member of the American College of Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons.
