Jean Rafferty received her B.A degree from CUNY-Queens College in Sociology (Cum Laude). She completed her Master’s degree in Social Work from Adelphi University (Sum Laude). She interned at LIJ Health Systems, and was later employed by LIJ as an Addiction Specialist/LCSW. In addition, she previously established a Post Abortion Support Program for the Diocese of Rockville Centre (H.O.P.E Hotline), participated in an article for Woman’s Day and has appeared on the Telecare Channel’s “Life Through a Woman’s Eyes” as a Professional Expert. She can be found on the Obesity Help.com’s Professional Network and currently has a private practice in Nassau and Suffolk counties. She specializes in working with patients who are planning to undergo a bariatric surgical procedure or who are adapting to their procedure. She also co-facilitates the NY Bariatric Groups monthly support meeting and leads weekly post- surgery support groups in her private practice. Jean Rafferty continues to be working on completing a book highlighting her own pre and post weight loss experience, as well as focusing on how to live with compulsive overeating and co-morbid mood disorders/addictions.
